If your screenplay explores love, romance, or friendship—whether it’s a heartfelt drama or a sharp, funny comedy—we want to read it. Features and shorts are welcome. Winners will be announced by March 10, 2025, with cash prizes up to $500 and category recognition across comedy and drama.

Our jurists are established writers, directors, producers, and consultants based in Austin, Texas, each with over a decade of professional experience.

Many have served as jurists and readers for prestigious festivals before joining SWFP, and they are excited to spotlight compelling voices from writers around the world.

Categories

- Best Drama Screenplay

- Best Comedy Screenplay

- Best Drama Short Screenplay

- Best  Comedy Short Screenplay.

One winner from each category will be selected among the finalists.

By entering the Southwest Film Festival you agree that the jurists may bestow a unique award on your script if it's recognized as a standout but doesn't truly fit into a listed category.  For example, "Best Screenplay - Historical Fiction."
